At AWPower, we’re passionate about driving the adoption of renewable energy and water solutions that empower communities and promote sustainability.
We’re thrilled to provide a progress update on our latest project at an upmarket Eco Estate based in Noordhoek, Cape Town, where we’re making significant strides in enhancing energy and water security while delivering substantial cost savings.
The latest addition to this alternative energy landscape is the installation of a solar PV system at their Administration Building. This system, which went live in early March 2024, marks a pivotal moment in the estate’s journey towards energy independence.
Comprising a 3-phase Hybrid Inverter and 15kWp of solar PV panels on the building’s roof, the solar PV system is complemented by a 15kWh lithium battery storage system. This comprehensive solution is designed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to essential facilities within the estate, including security cameras, perimeter security fences, entrance gate facilities, and all associated computer, communication, and Wi-Fi equipment.

One of the most exciting aspects of this project is its integration with nearby sewage and pool pumps.
Traditional switchgear and float switches, governing pumps with capacities typically at 5kW and 4kW, respectively, are being replaced by innovative solar pumping inverters. These cutting-edge inverters digitise, automate, and simplify the management of water and sewage pump stations, significantly reducing maintenance costs and improving overall efficiency.
Each solar pumping inverter is equipped with a SIM card, enabling seamless connectivity to a cloud-based management and control system. This system provides real-time insights into sewage sump levels, power delivery to sewage and water pumps, and other pump activities and issues, facilitating proactive maintenance and ensuring optimal performance at all times.
With an estimated payback period of less than 4 years, these systems promise substantial benefits for the estate. Beyond enhancing energy and water security, they offer significant cost savings, making renewable energy an economically viable choice for the estate.
Behind the scenes, AWPower is driving the design, installation, and support of these solar PV and pump inverter systems. As a Cape Town-based engineering company, we bring a wealth of expertise and dedication to every project. Recently recognised by MyBroadband as one of South Africa’s top three residential solar installers for 2023, AWPower is committed to ensuring the success and sustainability of this estate’s alternative energy initiatives.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to push the boundaries of renewable energy and water security and drive positive change in communities across South Africa.
