AWPower, an energy solutions provider servicing customers in Western Cape and Gauteng, recently upgraded the lead-acid batteries from an existing solar PV system installed during 2016, to 30kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries (LiFePO4) manufactured by Revov.
The original SMA Sunny Tripower 15kW 3-phase grid-tied inverter was reconfigured and approved by the City of Cape Town to export excess solar-generated power back to the grid.
The initial lead-acid batteries, with an effective capacity of 16.2 kWh at 50% Depth of Discharge (DOD), were replaced by LiFePO4 batteries capable of being discharged up to 90% DOD daily.
For loadshedding protection a MLT Powerstar with 30kWh of Revov LiFePO4 batteries keeps the house running during loadshedding periods.
