AWPower was established in 2015 as a solar energy solutions provider with a strong emphasis on engineering services. Founded by a group of industrial engineers with a passion for working in the renewable energy sector and a natural aptitude for designing quality systems, the group has an ongoing desire for research and development to ensure the supply of high quality energy efficient solutions to its clients.

The company’s investment in quality people and systems ensures that it continues to define the standard for service excellence.  Strategic partnerships are made with specialist and reputable organisations to provide expert research, quality products and accredited installations for our clients. With AWPower’s engineering expertise and design knowledge, the group can provide customised energy solutions for all business and residential properties, including medical centres and schools.

Warren Versfeld

Warren Versfeld

Manager-Engineering & Design

Warren is responsible for overall design of renewable energy solutions as well as research on new products and trends, keeping up-to-date with legislative requirements, and conducting energy monitoring studies. He received his BSc Engineering degree in Mechatronics from the University of Cape Town and completed the Advanced PV Design course at the Univ. of Stellenbosch.

Jamie Pothier

Jamie Pothier

Design & Installations Engineer

Jamie is a design engineer, involved in project planning, research and design of energy and water projects. He is closely involved in monitoring, inspection and on site logistics of installations on customer premises. Jamie received his BSc Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town.

Madeleine Hattingh

Madeleine Hattingh

Business Administrator

Madeleine retired after 19 years’ service as Senior Legal Advisor in Old Mutual’s Corporate Law Division. Prior to that, she was Programme Manager at Armscor for 15 years, responsible for the acquisition of logistic support for the SA Navy vessels. She completed her BIuris and LLB-Degrees at University of Pretoria and UNISA, respectively.

Smitty du Toit

Conformance Engineer (Pr. Eng.)

Smitty du Toit worked in the field of nuclear and accelerator instrumentation for more than 30 years at The Atomic Energy Board and The National Accelerator Centre. As part of his mandate he managed the Green Lab at iThemba Labs with subsequent experience in Solar energy equipment and system design. He completed the BSc, BEng degree from University of Stellenbosch in 1972, registered as professional engineer in 1975 and obtained Honours and MSc degrees in Engineering from University of Pretoria in 1975 and 1977 respectively.

Johan Fabricius

Johan Fabricius

Manager Electrical

Johan oversees the cabling & electrical component of all installations, including PV, cabling and electrical switchgear to ensure safety and compliance with local councils. He has many years of experience as an electrician in heavy industries including ABB and recently as project manager at SASOL. Johan is a certified electrician and quality control is assured with his knowledge and presence.

Hubert Leibrandt

Hubert Leibrandt

Chief: Construction & Installations

Hubert is an experienced master builder who has a wealth of experience in construction methods, including various roof types. Installation of solar PV modules and the choice of the correct mounting structures & methods is close to his core competencies.

Henri Hattingh

Henri Hattingh

Chief Executive Officer

Henri is a founding member of the SA Institute for Industrial Engineers with a successful career in technology companies that earned him awards including Business Person of the Year trophy from the Knysna/Plettenberg Bay Chamber of Business and finalist in the Western Cape Chamber of Business Exporter of the Year competition. Henri is also Chief Executive of leading Sage Business Partner AWCape.
